Tree Trimming & Pruning with Tapson's Tree Service

Every cut we make is a wound the tree has to seal. So we cut at the branch collar, we don’t leave stubs, we don’t strip more than the canopy can afford to lose in a season, and we never top a tree. Topping is the single most common thing done to Treasure Valley trees, and it produces weak, fast-growing regrowth that fails in the next windstorm.

Late winter to early spring is the sweet spot for most deciduous trees here.

How it works

From first call to finished job

  1. Step 1

    Tell us about your trees

Trimming, removal, stumps or storm damage: tell us how many trees, roughly how tall, and what's nearby. A photo helps.

  2. Step 2

    Look at the job

The trees are checked for health and hazards, along with everything around them: the house, fences, driveways, power lines and access to the yard.

  3. Step 3

    A clear quote

You get a quote that spells out what will be trimmed or removed, how, and whether wood, brush and stumps are hauled away, chipped or left for you.

  4. Step 4

    The work and the cleanup

Limbs are lowered in sections where needed, then the brush is chipped or hauled off and the work area raked clean.

What clients say

4.8

“They were amazing. Very professional with good communication. They were cautious of the house and fence line, taking down some Russian olive trees. Which the backyard was taken over by those trees. They were quick and efficient and a nice cleanup job after they were complete. The pricing was very reasonable would definitely recommend them to any friends or family.”

Kirsten Murphy

“We had a large branch break but was somewhat still attached to our tall tree. Tapson's was able to come within the hour, after hours, safely remove the branch while keeping the rest of the tree intact. They were mindful of the house and fence and thoughtfully planned how to safely remove the branch. They got all of the branches and chipped it. I'd recommend Tapson's again and next time, they would be my first call.”

Jennifer Fonnesbeck

“The team showed up on time with all of the right equipment and safety gear to do the work. The work was tricky, the tree hung over a fence and my covered patio. They did a great job!”

FAQ

Tree Trimming & Pruning: common questions

How often should trees be trimmed?

Many mature trees do well with pruning every three to five years, and young trees benefit from lighter pruning more often while their structure forms. Fast-growing trees and trees close to the house may need attention more frequently.

What's wrong with topping a tree?

Topping cuts large branches back to stubs. The tree answers with a burst of weak, crowded shoots that break easily, and the large wounds invite decay. Proper reduction cuts lower the height without those problems.

Will trimming hurt my tree?

Not when it's done properly. Cuts made in the right spot close over time, and removing a modest share of live growth is well tolerated. Taking off too much at once, or leaving stubs, is what stresses a tree.
